The Castle to host cemetery tours this Saturday

The Castle will host its second cemetery tour of the season Saturday at Oak Grove Cemetery, Eighth and Washington streets, at 10 a.m. and noon.

The theme for the tour is "MOVers and Shakers" at Oak Grove Cemetery.

It will recount the lives and accomplishments of several Marietta leaders, including Revolutionary War General and Continental Congress member James Mitchell Varnum, Anchorage owner Douglass Putnam, Choctaw missionary Catherine (Fay) Ewing, Broughton Foods Company President and Marietta Community Foundation founder Carl Broughton, oil producer and banker John Dinsmoor and the Murray family, who founded the Airolite Company, a three-generation manufacturing business.

Future cemetery tours will include:

¯ "Patriots Tour," Mound Cemetery, 10 a.m. and noon, July 1

¯ "Remember the Ladies," Mound Cemetery, 10 a.m. and noon, Aug. 12

¯ "Bringing Forth Those Pioneers 2023," Mound Cemetery, 10 a.m. and noon, Oct. 21
