UPDATE: ‘Come on baby:’ Video shows dramatic rescue of Michigan toddler found unresponsive in pool

MACOMB COUNTY, MI – Two Macomb County deputies are being recognized for likely saving the life of an unresponsive toddler.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said Monday that Jonathon Potocki and Mitchell Blount, as well as the Macomb Township Fire Department, responded to the call in Macomb Township on June 3.

A toddler was not breathing, and the child's mother reported she found the toddler unresponsive in the swimming pool, deputies said.

Potocki and Blount arrived at the scene and took over CPR from the father. However, once a Medstar ambulance faced unforeseen delays, the decision was made to transport the toddler to a local hospital in Blount's vehicle.

Fire personnel rode in the patrol vehicle with the toddler while continuing emergency lifesaving measures. Upon arrival at the hospital, the toddler was breathing and had a pulse, police said.

The toddler was airlifted to a larger hospital with a Level-II pediatric trauma designation and was reported to be in stable condition.

"This type of situation is one of the worst a parent can experience," Wickersham said. "The responding deputies and fire personnel acted swiftly, ensuring the toddler received lifesaving measures and hospital transportation as quickly as possible. I applaud these public servants for their exceptional efforts."

The child was released from the hospital on Monday and is expected to fully recover, the child's parents told police.
